We were both awake by 6 so we planned an early start to our day; however, the best of intentions are often thwarted - this time by rain. The storm clouds moved in and by 8 am it was pouring rain, windy and very cool. This was not at all what we had imagined our day would be like. We were pretty much resigned to an "inside" day - museums, galleries, etc. We delayed our departure with the hope the rain would let up. By 9:30 things had improved so we headed for the bus and to the Old Town. By midday, thankfully, the skies were clear blue and, while it wasn't hot, the temperature was certainly better. It really is true that things look so much better in the sunshine. So, I took more pictures of places that yesterday looked dull.

By the time we had our lunch - at a pizzeria that served gluten-free pasta to Linda's delight - we revamped our plans and decided to take the cable car up Mt. Srdj. This is a mountain just behind the walled city. Wikipedia informs us that Its height is 1,352 ft. and its top is adorned with Fort Imperial built from 1806 to 1816, during the Napoleonic Wars. From the mountaintop, we had spectacular views of the walled city of Dubrovnik, Lokrum island, and the Adriatic Sea.

Needless to day that we were really glad we spent the 130HU (about $26) to have done this. Later, we went back to our 'hood, stopped for a drink at Orsan where we had eaten on our first night here, and headed back to the apartment for a rest. Dinner would be snacks "chez nous". The light on the hillside across the harbour was beautiful and the cruise ship at the dock looked so close we felt we could almost touch it. Then, a moonrise appeared behind the hill. What started as a pretty yucky day turned out pretty damn good!
